Creative Writing Launch Camp

(ages 9-14 yrs.)

If you want a boring class where you just sit inside and write all day long, you probably shouldn’t sign up for this camp.  For one thing, this is Ferntop, and we love to be outside! For another, Mr. George’s a little…different.  He sometimes says and does things that appear to have nothing at all to do with writing…until you suddenly understand how they do.  He’s apt to have you do things like walk through the woods blindfolded or launch water balloons.  You really don’t know.  He will almost certainly quote the Bible though.  Oh, and he tells horrible jokes.  Kids roll their eyes and groan, then they grow up to publish books, be speechwriters, touring musicians, mad scientists, and stuff like that. 

Creative Writing Launch Camp will explore how to get ideas, how to develop memorable characters, how to engineer a gripping plot, and how to tell stories in compelling ways that leave your readers wanting more.   Are you already working on something?  Bring it with you!  If you’d like to enter writing competitions for kids, we’ll share some details on ones coming up too.  But don’t tell anybody.  The last thing you’d want is to have your friends in camp with you, right?
