Our preschool program is for children ages 3-5 years.  It is a multi-age class which provides opportunities for wonderful and family style play and learning. Witnessing a 5 year old take the hand of a three year old for a walk with the goats confirms that children’s support and care for one another is a powerful tool for the development of each child.  The younger child observes and learns from the older child and the older child has opportunities to serve and support the younger child, a partnership like no other!

Ferntop provides experiences found in other traditional programs such as learning through play, discovery based learning, large and fine motor skills, creative expression, art and music and development of social skills, but uses nature and the themes of farm life as a springboard for learning. Caring for animals, the planting and tending of gardens, exploration of woods, fields and meadows, daily nature walks, working in the greenhouse, visits to the small library cabin, reading and expanding on excellent children's storybooks and literature, and enjoying a natural playground are some of the activities of a typical day.

Ferntop Nature School follows the Williamson County School calendar for major holiday and weather closings.
